It’s a great pleasure to be able to report back to The Friends that our annual Carol Service on December 20th was a very happy and successful occasion.
For almost two days a steady stream of children from Gresham Primary School, with their parents and grandparents, arrived at St John’s with flowers and vegetables in every type of container imaginable. Aided by their teachers and classroom assistants, the children set about transforming the church into the most engaging and entertaining flower festival, almost certainly the first such festival to be held at St John’s.
Our first fund raising concert, “Music for a Summer’s Evening” on Saturday 20 June was extremely well received by an appreciative audience.
The weather was kind to us and St John’s looked a picture with some lovely flower arrangements courtesy of “the flower ladies”. The star of the evening was our guest organist Kevin Drury who played a wide variety of pieces specially chosen for a summer’s evening.
The evening raised £500 for the Friends of St John’s, surely a creditable result for our first venture.
The Friends of St John the Baptist’s was formally launched on Easter Saturday in conjunction with Connie’s monthly cake stall. There was a great turn out and the Friends already has 60 members.
Eight months from when the Rector David Head mentioned the possibility of starting a Friends group the Friends of St John the Baptist launched it’s website and openened up membership. The founding group were the first to join!
