Auctionner - Martyn Fox, MBE

The Supper/Talk/Auction, organised by the Friends, was held at Aylmerton Village Hall on 1st April and proved to be a sellout and a great success. We were fortunate that Martyn Fox, MBE, a recently retired auctioneer, was happy to come and give an amusing and entertaining account of his experiences in rural Norfolk over a career spanning more than 30 years. Afterwards he conducted an auction of donated items and events which proved to be an entertainment in itself. Friends and local businesses were extremely generous in donating an appealing variety of items for the auction. The 20 lots ranged from afternoon tea at Sandringham House to a china elephant, and perhaps the star attraction, a conducted tour of the House of Commons, followed by afternoon tea with local MP Norman Lamb.
The auction raised an amazing £1,000.
We handled the catering “in house”, with special thanks to Patsy Rampling and Steve & Lesley Morris who worked tirelessly in the kitchen, aided by Judith Carter and Paula Dyche. There were lots of compliments from very satisfied diners. Taking into account ticket sales the event raised a total of £1,515. It really was an evening among Friends and enjoyed by everyone.
Thanks go not only to the Friends who supported us but to all those who stayed behind afterwards to help clear up and leave the Village Hall spick and span ready for Connie’s Cake & Coffee stall the following morning.
