St John's Children's Flower Festival

St John's Children's Flower Festival

Wellington Boots

At 2pm Wednesday 15 July the church was almost full to capacity when the Bishop of Lynn the Rt Rev’d Jonathan Meyrick (complete with mitre and flowing cloak) conducted a short thanksgiving service. The children sang with gusto and Lizzie Tatam spoke with great clarity as the narrator. Several children spoke to the congregation with enthusiasm about their regular “Friday Outdoor Learning Days”.

Among the exhibits was a washing line with flowers and vegetables suspended in socks, a variety of wellington boots with every kind of flower, all types of miniature garden, a suspension bridge, a seaside scene, a baby with green hair reclining in the font, decorated cardboard telephone kiosks and even a flower filled “potty”. The children really excelled themselves in what was a joyous occasion.
The flower festival ran until Monday 21 July and, at the request of the children, monies from the collection was donated to the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
