Mandy Wegg successfully bid on one of the star auction items a the Friends Auction last April – a visit to the Houses of Parliament and tea with Norman Lamb, our local MP…

  • Bird Watching with Trevor Williams

    Peregrine Falcon

At the Friends dinner/auction in April 2016 we were fortunate to secure the successful bid for a birdwatching experience with Trevor Williams, Chairman of North East Norfolk Birdwatching Club, himself a Friend of St John’s. Finding a date when seven retired people have nothing in their diaries is always a difficult task so it was not until 26th October that Patsy and I, with four other Friends met up with Trevor.

  • Autumn Fund Raising Concert

    Gresham's School Sound the Trumpets

The Friends autumn fund raising concert was held at St. John’s, Aylmerton on 28th September where we were thoroughly entertained by talented musicians from Gresham’s School, Holt.

  • Visit to Hyde Park Nursery

    Hyde Park Nursery

One of the items in the April auction event was a visit to the Hyde Park Nursery, courtesy of The Friends of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Paula Dyche, a Friend of both St John’s and the Gardens enjoyed a visit to the nursery in July 2016, with her friend Joan Chapman. It was a well timed visit to the Nursery being packed with flowers all ready to go out to central London Royal Parks. Mike Jones, the nursery manager, took about 20 Friends of Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens, around the nursery and enlightened us with how the plants are grown and managed as well as providing us with the history of the nursery.

  • St John’s has quite a large, mainly grassed churchyard which has always been something of a challenge to keep under control. It used to take around 4 hours to cut the grass at the churchyard, but with the ride-on mower all three areas of grass are now cut once a week in just one and a half hours

  • A ''Friendly Supper'''

    Auctionner - Martyn Fox, MBE

The Supper/Talk/Auction, organised by the Friends, was held at Aylmerton Village Hall on 1st April and proved to be a sellout and a great success. Taking into account ticket sales the event raised a total of £1,515. It really was an evening among Friends and enjoyed by everyone.

  • As you would expect – with difficulty! The last Quinquennial Report indicated that there could be death watch beetle in the main timber beams high up in the nave and recommended that these should be checked.
